The game changer

Activision joins Tiga in support for tax breaks

ACTIVISION BLIZZARD has become a member of the UK games industry body Tiga in support of its campaign to secure tax breaks for UK-based games developers.

Activision has two development studios in ol’ blighty – Bizarre Creations in Liverpool, creators of Project Gotham Racing and Blur and FreeStyleGames in Leamington Spa, creators of DJ Hero.

“The introduction of Games Tax Relief in the UK will be a game changer,” said George Rose, Executive VP at Activision. “It will make the UK a significantly more attractive place to invest in games development. Games Tax Relief will lead to increased investment, more job creation and power economic growth.

“However, if Games Tax Relief is not introduced then the UK will remain at a real disadvantage in comparison to other territories as a location for inward investment. Without Games Tax Relief the UK games industry will not fulfill its potential.”

This will no doubt bolster Tiga’s campaign but it still has a lot to overcome, having been disappointed by the government’s decision last week to scrap tax break plans.
