Canabalt creator to make game for Nottingham festival
THE CREATOR of one-button web game Canabalt, Adam Saltsman (a.k.a. Adam Atomic), will be developing a game from children’s ideas at an upcoming game festival in Nottingham.
The theory is to let kids put their ideas in a box then base the game on a mix of their “designs.” The process will take place over the course of this year’s GameCity Festival, allowing just four days for development.
“I’d rather see kids ideas go into the game rather than developers,” said Atomic. “I think it’d be a good idea to have a wish fulfilment thing. Like pirate ships with dog legs in space sort of stuff.”
He said the development idea is similar to that of Axe Cop, a web-comic in which the story is determined by a 5-year-old but drawn by his 29-year-old brother.
“It would be in that vein,” he said. “I think we would take their art and then work from that.”
GameCity Festival will be held in Nottingham, October 26-30.
