Minecraft to get spooky new features for Halloween
MINECRAFT, THAT dangerously addictive indie success with the building and the digging and the tree punching and the zombies, will be getting a special Halloween update, creator Markus “Notch” Persson announced.
As well as some new monsters to fight the update will introduce a “scary new world” for fast travel in which you enter via a portal. Leave through another portal and you will have travelled hundreds of meters in just a few steps.
The torches will also get a few tweaks too, meaning that after some time they will go out, leaving players to relight them using flint and steel (or “place lanterns that last forever”). Also, in a very survival horror turn, the deeper you mine the brighter you will need to keep your surroundings in order to stay safe.
Perhaps the most useful feature is the addition of a creatable watch, which will let you know whether it is day or night when far from the surface.
Oh, there will be fish too. Fish to fish.
The update will be released on, yes, the scary October 31.
