Resolution Podcast – 27/01/09

(Updated to include a picture of J.D.’s cat, Conan, asleep on top of the wardrobe. Click to enlarge.)

Welcome to the new and improved Resolution Podcast! It’s been far too long. Hosts J.D. Richardson and Lewis Denby have a new, robotic assistant on-hand, helping them to field conanquestions from readers about EVIL DRM before talking about the theme of isolation in games.

It’s worth apologising in advance, as New and Improved did end up meaning “more calamatous than ever”. First, J.D.’s cat decided to make itself very much known. Then, just as we finished recording and pressed ’save’, the laptop crashed, losing us the last half-hour of material, resulting in us having to re-record it all. And finally, as we packed up at the end of the night, we realised the microphone hadn’t been plugged in. The whole thing had been recorded using a tiny in-built laptop mic. Hence the atrocious sound quality. We can only hang our heads in shame.

Still! Hope you like it. We’ll be on iTunes soon, as well. For now, here’s the direct link, here’s the feed page, and you can listen below.

We really need to get our shit together…

  • I both love and fear Resolution Robot.

  • Jesus, my ears. You need some kind of limiter or compressor, everytime someone laughs or makes a sudden loud noise, my brain bleeds out of my ears.

Otherwise a fun podcast to listen to. :)

  • Yeah, like I said – recorded on a bloody laptop mic by accident. Usually we run a vocal compressor and then a master limiter over the whole thing, but since the mic was so crap, doing so just amplified the room noise to the most astonishing, nasty, hissy degree. Next one will be better, we promise!

  • There was a funny moment for me when we were recording and I noticed the end of a jack lead on the floor next to the laptop. I followed the wire like one of those puzzles where theres a bunch of lines all muddled up but only one leads to the treasure and low and behold it was the Mic lead! Uh-oh! Spaghetti-O’s!
