Top Japanese industry heads’ salaries revealed
IT’S RUDE to ask somebody’s salary. But it isn’t rude to publish their salary if they earn over 100 million yen and they have been made legally obliged to publicly disclose it.
Which is exactly what is now required of Japanese games companies in their shareholder reports.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata receives a basic salary of 68 million yen (£508,212), which becomes 187 million yen (£1.4m) when you add on those tasty performance bonuses.
Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada reportedly earns 240 million yen (£1.79m), Sega Sammy’s CEO Osamu Satomi pockets a hefty 435 million yen (£3.3m), Sony CEO Howard Stringer a whopping 816.5 million yen (£6.1m) and Namco Bandai Holdings president Kazunori Ueno 137 million yen (£1m).
A group of six Nintendo board members – including Shigeru Miyamoto – are also said to earn 100 million yen (£746,930) in total.
