WoW: Cataclysm sells 4.7m copies in first month

THAT’S IT. We’re all doomed. They just can’t be stopped. Not satisfied with telling everyone that they had the best day-one sales in PC game history, Blizzard Entertainment have now boasted that they have sold 4.7m copies of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm within the first month of release.

Cataclysm breaks all previous monthly sales for PC games, based on Blizzard’s internal records and the figures given to them by distribution partners.

“We’ve been floored by the community’s response so far,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “And we’d like to thank them for their continued passion and support for World of Warcraft.”

A month ago they were happy just to report that they had shifted 3.3m copies on the first day. But no longer.

Today, 4.7 million copies. Tomorrow, the World million copies!
