There’s nothing worse than packing for a long trip and coming up short on space. Wrangling your suitcase, backpack, or carry-on so it’s not overflowing can be tricky. But with a little strategic planning and packing, you can make the most of the space that is available to you. And no one knows this better than frequent travelers. They understand that you have to be as efficient with your luggage as possible in order to be able to take longer trips without having to check bags every time. Fortunately, there are ways that you can pack more into your suitcase while also keeping everything organized. There are tricks and tips that can help you get more out of the limited space you have available to you. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, these tips will help maximize the amount of clothing and accessories that will fit in whatever bag or suitcase you’re using for your trip.

Roll Your Clothing

Rolling your clothing is the best way to pack more into your bag. It takes up less space, allows you to easily see what’s in there, and keeps your clothes from getting wrinkled. If you’re able to roll everything you’re taking with you, from t-shirts to your dress shirts, you’ll see a significant difference in the amount of clothing you can fit in your bag. And in a pinch, you can even use a scarf as a belt or a belt as a scarf. If you don’t have room to roll everything you’re taking with you, you can always use smaller bags to separate out your items. Using smaller bags to organize your clothing will help you fit more into your suitcase, but rolling your clothes is a much more efficient way to go about it.

Stuff Your Shoes

You can easily get six pairs of shoes into one pair of shoes. Put each pair of shoes into a plastic grocery bag. Put the first pair of shoes in the shoe, then stuff the pair with the next five pairs. Now put that shoe in the space you would have put one pair of shoes. You can also lay your socks and underwear out flat and roll them up to fill the space. Alternatively, you can put some of your heavier items, like belts or scarves, in the shoes to keep them from shifting around in your bag. This will help you to maximize the amount of clothing you can fit in your bag, but it can also help you with another problem that many travelers face. If you’ve ever traveled with someone who has particularly stinky shoes, you know that it can be a problem in close quarters. Stuffing multiple pairs of shoes into one pair of shoes can help to keep the smell contained to one pair of shoes.

Use a Shaving Kit

If you’re traveling for business, you may be taking a razor with you. But if you’re taking a shorter trip or are on a budget, you may not want to spend money on a razor that you’ll only use once or twice. In this case, using a shaving kit can help you to shave off some space in your bag. You can fit a full shaving kit into a small toiletry bag and save yourself some room in your luggage. You can also use this to separate out your toiletries from your clothing items, making it easier to find what you’re looking for when you need it. Depending on the size of the bag you’re taking, you may not be able to fit everything you need into it. You can use this method to trim down your toiletries and save some space in your bag, but if you have a lot of things you need to take with you, you’ll need to prioritize what goes in and what stays out.

Bring ziplock bags

If you want to take your shampoo but don’t want to take the entire bottle, transfer it into a ziplock bag. This will help save space in your bag and allow you to only take the amount of shampoo you need on your trip. You can do this with other liquids as well. If you want to take hand sanitizer but don’t want to bring the entire bottle, transfer it into a smaller bottle. If you want to take contact solution, transfer it into a bag. If you want to take lotion, put it in a ziplock bag. If you have a favorite moisturizer, lipstick, or deodorant that you don’t want to risk losing in your bag, you can put it in a ziplock bag and then into your toiletry bag to keep it from leaking all over your other items. Ziplock bags are helpful for more than just liquids.

Conclusion

Packing can be a daunting task. There are so many things that you have to remember, from what clothing you’re taking to how you’re going to fit it all into your luggage. And when you have a short amount of time to get it all done, it can be even more stressful. These tips will help you to maximize the amount of clothing and accessories that you can fit in whatever bag or suitcase you’re using for your trip. That way, you’ll be able to take longer trips without having to check bags.
