The first part of the Frostpunk series revolutionized a whole genre. Now, almost three years later, the next part in the series continues. We’ll show you what you can look forward to and what we already know.
Frostpunk 2 is the sequel to the popular and award-winning Frostpunk, which was first launched in 2018. After the first installment in the series won award after award, it is clear why players are now looking forward to the second installment.
THE STORY OF FROSTPUNK 2
The first part of Frostpunk takes place in an alternate reality in 1886. The Krakatoa and Mount Tambora, two volcanoes, erupt and ring in a volcanic ice age by the darkening of the sun. This leads to the death of millions of people and the massive destruction of crops around the world.
In response to the Ice Age, the United States and the British Empire built huge generators in the coal-rich north. These became the centers of new cities. It is your role in the game to be the leader of such a city. You have to make important decisions to ensure the survival of your people. You will also lead expeditions and explore the area around your city in search of resources.
The second part of the series continues to be about running a city and guaranteeing its survival. However, you are now already 30 years deep in the ice age. So a new source of energy is needed because steam and coal no longer deliver what they once promised. The only thing left for you to do is to develop oil as a new, reliable source of energy.
But this does not come without its own set of challenges. Some still want to hold on to coal, others are completely ready for the switch to oil. It is up to you to make choices that will guarantee both survival and peace within the city. How will you exercise your power as the city leader? Are tyranny and an iron fist the best solution or are there better options?
